About Wahkohtowin Club x Tamarack Cunningham
This installation comprises a concert, a visual art exhibit, and perhaps most importantly, a work bee, where people affirm community and relations by participating in labour and art creation together. This work contextualizes established traditions (for example the ancient material formalism of scraping hide, or fiddle tunes so old that no one knows who wrote them) and modern cultural practices (original songs with non-traditional instrumentation and production, modernist art composition), meaning that multiple cultural reference points will be accessible.
With the support of a resident elder to ensure proper observation of indigenous practices, a crew of musicians, and workers and artists to create the art itself, Wahkotowin Club x Tamarack Cunningham has the cultural and artistic ability to create something truly unique.
This work will incorporate, among other things, storytelling, traditional practices, songwriting, sound design, music performance and improvisation and emergent collaboration.
