About The Light of Other Skies
The Light of Other Skies illuminates the love story of architect Arthur Erickson and his partner, interior designer Francisco Kripacz. Their story comes to life against the backdrop of their architectural creations, as seen through the eyes of a young artist who longs to connect with the queer past.
Memory Box Theatre is proud to present a work-in-progress showing of this innovative piece, which combines archive-based and documentary storytelling with theatrical worldbuilding to share an extraordinary chapter of Canadian history.

PLAIN LANGUAGE DESCRIPTION: The Light of Other Skies is a biographical adaptation of the lives of architect Arthur Erickson and his partner, interior designer Francisco Kripacz. Their story is told by a third fictional character, Brenden Pender, a young queer writer who searches for a connection with Canada’s queer past. This work-in-progress showing of the play explores the use of theatrical elements like projection, lighting, scenic design, and music to recreate Erickson’s archives and architecture.
AUDIENCE EXPERIENCE: Audiences will sit in a theatre and watch actors perform the play.

VENUE ACCESS NOTES:
The Light of Other Skies is located in the Backstage Theatre at the Fringe Theatre Arts Barns. You can access the Backstage Theatre on the north side of the building, off of Gateway Boulevard and next to the Strathcona High Level Streetcar Stop. Keep an eye out for Common Ground signage that will point the way! Paid parking is available throughout the immediate area, the closest being the parking lot north of Knox Church. Free street parking is available on 84 Avenue, and throughout the area. The facility has wheelchair-accessible gender neutral washrooms.
