Visibility in public spaces can be unnerving for any gender non-conforming person, and Julie is trans, non-binary, and gender-fluid. Despite the anxiety, they face the world and choose to be neither passing nor quiet. Glass Washrooms is a dance/theatre piece that makes public the private transformation a meek young girl into a strong, powerful androgyne.
There will be a talkback following each performance.
Found Festival and the artistic team behind GLASS WASHROOMS has made the difficult but necessary decision to move the performance from the Public Washrooms on Whyte Avenue (10270 82 Ave) to the at The Backstage Theatre at the ATB Financial Arts Barns (10330 84 Avenue, enter from back alley).
Found performance art needs to respect its found space, recognize its function, and respect the community it serves. Placing this performance in an invaluable public space frequented by the local community has caused a disruption we did not intend. We wish no further impact on the community to whom that bathroom is essential.
We are incredibly grateful to the community of people who supported our opening performance. We are excited to continue to share this vital piece of performance art with the community and look forward to the discussions that follow. Please join us!
